Russia's defense ministry ready to contract additional training of Ka-226 helicopters

Under the state armament program before the end of 2020, the Defense Ministry plans to buy 1,124 helicopters

MOSCOW, February 28 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s Defense Ministry is ready to sign contracts on additional supplies of Ka-226 helicopters, First Deputy Minister Alexander Sukhorukov told the State Duma deputies on Tuesday.

He said that under the state armament program “before the end of 2020, the Defense Ministry plans to buy 1,124 helicopters,” and the necessary contracts are signed already.

In November of 2011, the ministry asked enterprises to increase production of helicopters if possible. Producers of Mi-8 and Mi-35 agreed. Every year, order provided, they are ready to supply nine additional helicopters.

“The enterprise producing Ka-226 sticks to the present order: 12 in 2011, six in 2012,” Sukhorukov said. He explained the ministry is buying this model for training military students.

“If the producer is ready to supply us the number of helicopters, which the Armed Forces need now, we are ready to sign an additional agreement,” he concluded.
