MOSCOW, February 27 (Itar-Tass) — Russia upholds efforts to step up the ASEAN strategic role in the development of processes in the Asia-Pacific Region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday.
After the talks with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin, Lavrov said, “Today we’ve discussed Russian-ASEAN partnership. Over the last three years Myanmar has coordinated the ASEAN activity. We thank our friends for the role that they played in this aspect.”
“We also discussed prospects for our contacts within the East Asia Summits. Russia and the United States jointed this structure last year. We considered prospects for cooperation within other formats under the ASEAN auspices,” the Russian minister said.
“We’d like our partnership to expand in all fields, in bilateral and multilateral affairs. I believe that today’s talks have helped determine concrete ways to achieve our goal,” Lavrov stressed.
