GORNO-ALTAISK, February 27 (Itar-Tass) —— More than 500 people in Tuva had been staying in temporary shelters in Tuva overnight, fearing resumption of earth tremors after Sunday’s quake. By Monday morning almost all the people, staying in such shelters, went home, the press service of the regional department of the Ministry for Emergency Situations told Itar-Tass.
The Mayor’s Office of Kyzyl (Tuva capital) announced late on Sunday that around 30 temporary shelters were offered to the city population who feared going back to their houses after an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.5 points in the epicenter spotted 100 kilometers east of the capital of Tuva on February 26.
The earth tremors in Kyzyl measured 5. 5 points, the source said. Repercussions of the quake with a smaller magnitude of 2.4-2. 5 points followed.
The Kyzyl Mayor's office asked the population to stay calm and not give way to panic. The population of big apartment blocks, who feared to stay inside were recommended either to stay at their relatives' in low storied buildings or go to temporary shelters opened in school buildings, kindergartens, gyms and other places.
