MOSCOW, February 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Press Secretary of Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov confirmed information that Ukraine and Russia’s intelligence services prevented assassination of Vladimir Putin.

“I do confirm the information, but do not comment on it,” Peskov told Itar-Tass on Monday.

On Monday it became known that intelligence agencies of Ukraine and Russia managed to thwart the plans of terrorists who were preparing an assasination attempt on Vladimir Putin after the presidential election. TV Channel One reports that internationally wanted bandits have been captured in Odessa, and from their testimony their intent their criminal intent became known, they were going to Moscow immediately after the presidential election.

The TV channel promised to give the details in the evening Vremya (Time) news program.

On February 7, the press service of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) reported that on February 4, three Russian citizens involved in terrorist activities were detained in Odessa. However, it is not known whether the TV Channel One was referring to the same detainees.

According to the SBU press service, 31-year-old Adam Osmayev, who is wanted internationally, as well as two of his accomplices, were detained in a special operation. It is said that they often changed their appearance and location in the Ukrainian port city hiding out from the police.

According to investigators, hiding from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), the terrorists secretly arrived in Ukraine. The criminals in a rented apartment in Odessa were engaged in manufacturing explosives, as a result of which an accidental explosion and fire occurred on January 4. One of the accomplices - Ruslan Madayev was killed, and the third – Kazakhstan’s citizen Ilya Pyanzin – got burns and was taken to a hospital intensive care unit. Later he gave testimony on the preparation of terrorist acts by them in the Russian territory. Osmayev, despite getting wounds in the spontaneous explosion, managed to escape.

The SBU has not disclosed the names of the two accomplices who were detained along with Osmayev. It is known that they were found by a call from a mobile phone. SBU officers stormed the suspects’ apartment in the city’s centre, close to the Privoz market.

This has been not the first averted assasination attempt on Vladimir Putin. In 2000, Ukraine’s secret services had information about a planned attempt on Putin, who then held the post of the President of Russia. The assassination was planned during an informal CIS summit in Yalta on August 18-19.

Head of the Ukrainian Security Service Leonid Derkach said earlier that four Chechens suspected of plotting the assassination were arrested in the Crimea and deported from Ukraine.
