MOSCOW, February 26 (Itar-Tass) —— About ten people were detained in an unauthorized action on Moscow Revolution Square on Sunday, the city police told Itar-Tass.

“No less than 200 opposition members came to Revolution Square after the White Circle” action along the Garden Ring and tried to hold an unauthorized rally,” he said. “They started a clash with representatives of other public and political movements. The police stopped the fight. About ten people were detained and taken to a police station.”

Meanwhile, citizens were celebrating Shrovetide on Revolution Square. They were singing and dancing, drinking mead and kvass and eating pancakes.

The protesters tried to hold their own action, “Political Winter Farewell”. They danced, chanted political slogans, launched balloons and expressed their support to Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov and PARNAS cochairman Boris Nemtsov.

Udaltsov said that the city authorities had denied approval to the opposition rally and the action on Revolution Square was held in the form of a flash mob.

Earlier in the day, the protesters made a live circle along the Moscow Garden Ring. The police said about 11,000 people took part in the action. Udaltsov said the number was no less than 30,000.
