MOSCOW, February 24 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s Right Cause party elected its new chairman on an uncontested basis at its extraordinary meeting.
Sixty-nine delegates of the party’s congress voted for Andrei Dunayev, who served as the party’s acting leader since September, while another six delegates voted against.
In his opening remarks to the congress Dunayev said the issue of the Right Cause’s dissolution is not on the agenda and the rumours about the party’s liquidation are heavily exaggerated.
He underlined that after representatives of the Democratic Party and the Civil Force withdrew, a group of like-minded persons remained in the ranks of the Right Cause and they need to resolve some organizational issues to move forward.
In particular, Dunayev proposed to change the party’s leadership structure making it “more democratic” and create more independent regional offices.
