Moldova’s ruling coalition nominates IMF official for president

The candidacy of Veronica Bakalu, who agreed to run for this post, was supported by the Democratic Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Socialist Group

CHISINAU, February 24 (Itar-Tass) — Leaders of Moldova’s ruling Alliance "For European Integration" have nominated for presidency Veronica Bakalu, Deputy Division Chief in the International Monetary Fund’s Middle East and Central Asia Department, the republic’s Prime Minister, Vlad Filat, told reporters on Friday.

Earlier Bakalu served as Vice-President of the National Bank of Moldova.

“The candidacy of Veronica Bakalu, who agreed to run for this post, was supported by the Democratic Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Socialist Group led by Igor Dodon,” Filat said.

He noted that the parties’ leaders wait for a reaction of the Liberal Party that took a break to discuss the proposal.
