MOSCOW, February 24 (Itar-Tass) — Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad is not ready to step down, as there are no grounds for this, the head of the State Duma international affairs committee, Alexei Pushkov, told a news conference on Friday.
“I met with Assad, we had a long conversation,” he said. “I did not have an impression that he was ready to resign.”
“There are no sufficient grounds for this. The issue of the Syrian president’s resignation is not on the agenda. He enjoys support,” Pushkov said.
