MOSCOW, February 24 (Itar-Tass) — The idea to recognize the Syrian National Council is supported by the West, but not Syrian people, State Duma International Affairs Committee Chairman Alexei Pushkov, who recently visited Damascus, said at a press conference in Moscow on Friday.
"There are reports that the Group of Friends of Syria at the meeting on Friday will recognize the SNC as the Syrian nation's legitimate representative. But the SNC is supported by the West, but not Syrian people," Pushkov said. Representatives of the so-called SNC are in Istanbul, far from the people, he noted.
Another wrong signal will be sent to the radical opposition. It will be another spiral turn of confrontation, Pushkov warned.
