Russia’s Mistrals to be equipped with strike and defence weapons

Russia’s newest offensive and defensive weapon systems, including supersonic cruise missiles, will be installed at all four Mistral class helicopter carriers

MOSCOW, February 24 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s newest offensive and defensive weapon systems, including supersonic cruise missiles, will be installed at all four Mistral class helicopter carriers built both in France and in Russia, an official from the country’s defence complex told Itar-Tass on Friday.

“We plan that the first two Mistral carriers built in France and other two built in Russia will be equipped with advanced domestic arms systems, including supersonic cruise missile launchers, newest missile defence, air defence and anti-submarine warfare systems and complexes,” the official said.

Mistral will also take onboard anti-submarine helicopters, artillery, amphibious assault landing craft, motor boats, armoured vehicles and other hardware and weapons, he added.

French made Mistral class ships will be equipped at one of Russia’s defence enterprises, where they will arrive from Saint-Nazaire in western France.
