Cache of arms, ammunition and explosives found in Smolensk

Criminal police officers discovered a large cache in a basement of an abandoned unfinished house in the industrial district of the city

MOSCOW, February 24 (Itar-Tass) — Police discovered explosives, a grenade launcher, firearms, mines and grenades in a hideout in an abandoned house in Smolensk, a police source told Itar-Tass by telephone on Friday.

Criminal police officers discovered a large cache in a basement of an abandoned unfinished house in the industrial district of the city. There were an RPG-22 grenade launcher, a Kalashnikov gun, a foreign-made hand machine gun, two anti-personnel mines, an RGD-5 grenade, eight electric detonators, about 700 units of ammunition of various calibre and 1.5 kilogrammes of RDX, the source said.

An investigation into the case is underway.
