MOSCOW, February 24 (Itar-Tass) — Russian and Chinese foreign ministers Sergei Lavrov and Yang Jiechi discussed possible steps to be taken for the settlement of the Syrian crisis.
At Russia’s initiative the ministers discussed the situation in Syria during a telephone conversation.
“The parties confirmed common positions of Russia and China that are consistently calling for the soonest possible cessation of any violence in Syria and for the beginning of an inclusive dialogue between the authorities and the opposition without any preliminary conditions for peaceful settlement that excludes external interference into Syria’s affairs,” a Russian foreign ministry official said.
“The ministers discussed possible steps that could be taken in pursuing these aims,” the official said.
