Nearly 29,000 people vote early in Russia’s presidential election

Early voting has begun in 20 of 37 regions with remote or hard-to-access areas

MOSCOW, February 22 (Itar-Tass) —— Nearly 29,000 people have already voted in Russia’s presidential election slated for March 4, the Central Election Commission said on Wednesday, February 22.

Early voting has begun in 20 of 37 regions with remote or hard-to-access areas.

The largest number of people – 11,465 -- have cast their ballots early in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area. Nearly 4,000 people have voted in the Irkutsk region, more than 3,000 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area.

Early voting will continue till March 3 and may cover 130,000-150,000 people, who will make up slightly over 1 percent of the total number of voters in Russia.
