MOSCOW, February 22 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow believes that the decision not to invite the Syrian government to a meeting of the so-called Friends of Syria Group is a blunder, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on Wednesday.

He described the efforts to resolve problems without participation of key players as wrong.

“We proceed from the assumption that the settlement of the situation requires involvement of the world community, in particular the United Nations and the UN Security Council as well as of the key players,” Gatilov said. “This should be done on a mutually advantageous basis and no solutions should be dictated.”

“Only in this case a viable solution can be found,” the diplomat said.
