Russia seeks to deepen relations with the United States

Medvedev says that Russia is interested in deepening relations with the United States

MOSCOW, February 22 (Itar-Tass) — Russia is interested in deepening relations with the United States, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at a ceremony of presentation of credentials by the ambassadors of a number of countries, including the United States.

“Relations with the United States traditionally are and will continue to be among Russia's foreign policy priorities,” Medvedev said. “They are of particular importance both for global security and for making our world more sustainable.”

The president of the Russian Federation noted that in recent years, the atmosphere of political dialogue between the two countries noticeably improved. The mutual positive attitude formed the basis for attaining concrete practical results and for the signing of important agreements, he said.

“We are interested in deepening cooperation with the United States in a wide range of spheres. Even in the situations where we differ in the assessments or have different views, I am confident that, being guided by common sense, principles of mutual respect, equality, with joint efforts we can contribute to maintaining stability and security in the world and, thus, create the basis for the future development of US-Russia relations,” Medvedev said.

“The messages that we have recently exchanged with US President Barack Obama had this very positive attitude,” the Russian president said.
