Russia-EU mutual visa regime cancellation should not take long

Moscow attaches particular importance to the issue of mutual visa regime cancellation in relations between Russia and the European Union

MOSCOW, February 22 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow attaches particular importance to the issue of mutual visa regime cancellation in relations between Russia and the European Union, Russia's Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Wednesday.

“After lengthy and serious negotiations, at the summit last December we managed to reach an agreement on a list of common steps to be taken by both parties to achieve this very ambitious goal,” the diplomat recalled. “The practical work on its implementation already began, and we hope that this process would not take too long.”

“After taking the joint steps Russia and the EU, in accordance with the reached agreement, will start substantive negotiations on working out a bilateral agreement on the mutual abolition of visas for short trips of citizens,” Lukashevich added.
