Rospotrebnadzor to check Ukraine’s cheese-making enterprises

The check was initiated in order to work out measures, which will allow to resume Ukrainian cheese supplies to Russia

MOSCOW, February 20 (Itar-Tass) — The Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) sent a list of documents to the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food to check enterprises producing cheese and supplying it to the Russian market, the press service reported on Monday.

Documents will be checked in order to work out measures, which will allow to resume Ukrainian cheese supplies to Russia, the press service said.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, is also ready to consider documents on products, which will come from Ukrainian enterprises producing cheese and supplying it to the Russian market.

Earlier, Rospotrednadzor ordered to confiscate cheeses of three Ukrainian producers – Prometei Company (Chernigov Region), the Piryatin and Gadyach cheese factories (both Poltava Region) from the Russian market because they did not correspond with Russia’s technical rules and because cheeses contained vegetable oils and fats.

Ukraine believes that Russia’s accusations are groundless. “The quality of our cheese is excellent. Of course, there is no palm oil in them,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said.

In his view, “sooner or later both parties will reach an agreement and remove barriers.”

Experts say Ukraine exports at least 65,000 tonnes of cheese to Russia every year.
