MOSCOW, February 20 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin warned the United States that Russia’s response to the deployment of a global missile defence system will be efficient and asymmetrical.
“Russia’s military-technical response to a global US missile defence system and its segment in Europe will be efficient and asymmetrical. This will a fully relevant response to the US steps in the missile defence sphere,” the Russian premier said in an article, which is published in the Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily on Monday.
Putin is convinced that “it is high time for decisive steps to build up the unified system of the air and space defence of the country.” “The policy of the US and NATO over the deployment of the missile defence system makes us take these actions,” he elaborated.
“The guarantee against the violation of the global balance of forces can be the creation of our own, quite costly and still inefficient missile defence system, or that is much more fruitful, the capability to overcome any missile defence system and protect the Russian retaliatory potential,” the premier noted.
“The Strategic Nuclear Forces and structures of the air and space defence will pursue this particular goal. There cannot be “too much patriotism” in this issue,” Putin underlined.
