MOSCOW, February 19 (Itar-Tass) —— Head of the Moscow department of culture Sergey Kapkov does not rule out creation of a Hyde Park at the Luzhniki Stadium.
Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin ordered earlier to organise a working group to discuss with the public the idea of creating in the city a sort of Hyde Park to organise rallies there. Deputy Mayor Alexander Gorbenko will supervise the working group.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin suggested choosing a place in Moscow, like the English Hyde Park, where people could gather and express their opinions openly.
"It seems to me that such a place in Moscow would be logical, especially considering the fact that political activism in the city is growing, and I do not think that it will be declining,” Kapkov told a news conference. “We should find a special place for it to be. Maybe it will be Luzhniki."
He noted that "any rally raises the question of safety and security of Muscovites and the entire city."
"Of course, this area should be maximum large, so that it is convenient for participants," he added.
Hyde Park in Central London has become a synonym of a place where you can freely proclaim and defend any ideas, where representatives of any political and philosophical currents may speak.
