MOSCOW, February 18 (Itar-Tass) —— The resignation of Germany’s President, Christian Wolf, will not bring about major changes in the country’s home or foreign policies, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, Konstantin Kosachyov said.

He recalled that Germany was a parliamentary republic, and that the presidential powers in it were far smaller than those in Russia and other countries.

“Germany’s policy-makers are the party that has won the election and the parties in coalition with it, as well as the federal chancellor. It is the chancellor who represents the parliamentary coalition in the executive bodies of power,” Kosachyov explained.

He believes that the change of the parliamentary majority and the government in Germany would have far greater political effects than the change of president.
