Timoshenko permits her lawyer to disclose diagnosis

Timoshenko’s lawyer Sergei Vlasenko said on Friday that his client had given him a written permission to disclose her diagnosis

KIEV, February 17 (Itar-Tass) —— Ex-Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko’s lawyer Sergei Vlasenko said on Friday that his client had given him a written permission to disclose her diagnosis.

The diagnosis of the foreign physicians, who have examined Timoshenko, will be made public if the Ukrainian authorities continue to post incorrect information about the condition of her health, the lawyer said.

“I have a written permission to disclose the full or partial diagnosis depending on the lies they tell. I have this power. It would be premature to say anything before the Canadian and German physicians express their opinion,” the UNIAN news agency cited Vlasenko. He noted that Timoshenko’s condition was rather serious and she needed therapy.

The court sentenced Timoshenko on October 11 to seven years in prison for exceeding her authority in the signing of the gas contracts with Russia in 2009. She was also compelled to pay 1.51 billion hryvni (almost $200 million) to Neftegaz Ukrainy.

Her family and friends said many times that the ex-prime minister’s health had deteriorated. Timoshenko refused from being examined by specialists of the Ukrainian Health Ministry and insisted on an examination by foreign physicians.
