MOSCOW, February 17 (Itar-Tass) —— An Israeli citizen, who had been convicted of murder and escaped from an Israeli prison, was caught in Moscow, the Interpol Russian Bureau reported on Friday.

“The Interpol Russian Bureau and the Russian Interior Ministry’s Main Criminal Investigation Department detained Israeli citizen Gennady Sokolov in Moscow today. He had been serving 20 years in an Israeli prison for a murder perpetrated in 1998,” the report said.

The convict escaped after his 72-hour temporary release in August 2022. “Israel put him on the international wanted list,” the report said.

“Sokolov was hiding in Moldova at first and then moved to Russia. He resided in Moscow under an assumed name,” it said.
