NALCHIK, February 17 (Itar-Tass) — A special operation that continued for more than 30 hours has been completed in the town of Nartkala, the administrative centre of Urvan district, Kabardino-Balkaria. Three gunmen were killed as a result, and a police officer was wounded, a local law enforcement source told Tass.

At the present moment a cleanup operation is in progress at the site, where explosive devices could have been planted, the source added. According to him, gunmen were blocked in the basement of a private house. They were all well armed. At the present moment the killed gunmen are being identified.

The house has been practically destroyed and specialists clear the debris. However, the regime of anti-terrorist operation has not been cancelled by the operations headquarters as of yet.

The regime of anti-terrorist operation was introduced at 8:30 am, Moscow time, on Thursday in the part of Nartkala limited by Nogmov, Borukayev, Kabardinskaya, Vatutin, and Mayakovsky Streets.
