MOSCOW, February 17 (Itar-Tass) —— The strategic relationship of Moscow and Damascus plays an important role in building a just society in Syria, Syrian Grand Mufti representative Sheikh Dr. Allaudeen Zatari said on Friday. He is a member of the Syrian National Unity Echelon delegation visiting Moscow.
“We stand for the inter-Syrian dialog and welcome every constructive force, including the opposition and presidential supporters,” he said. “We oppose those who seed chaos and destruction. There can be no dialog with murderers and criminals.”
“The U.S. aims to destroy and divide the Arab world and to build “a new Middle East” in which tensions would reign and brothers would kill their brothers,” he said. “We are grateful for the just position of Russia, which has always supported the inter-Syrian dialogue.”
In turn, Syrian journalist and political expert Bassam Abu Abdullah said that Syrian citizens “wished to preserve their country where people of different religions would co-exist in peace and tranquility.”
“We support democratic reforms and want to build a new society but without foreign interference, without interference of Arab states, in which there is no democracy, and Western states, which do not respect human rights,” he said.
