IRKUTSK, February 17 (Itar-Tass) — At least 20 new hotels of the international network Marriott will appear in Russia by 2015, Vice President of Marriott International for Europe Peter Steger told Itar-Tass. According to him, this number of hotels, which is expected to be opened in Russia in partnership with Transstroibank, corresponds to the company’s plans to double the number of rooms in Europe from 40 thousand to 80 thousand by 2015.

Marriott International operates and franchises hotels under the Marriott, JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, Renaissance, Residence Inn, Courtyard, TownePlace Suites, Fairfield Inn, SpringHill Suites and Bulgari brand names; develops and operates vacation ownership resorts under the Marriott Vacation Club, The Ritz-Carlton Destination Club, and Grand Residences by Marriott brands.

Transstroibank President Pyotr Chitipakhovyan explained that the hotels will be constructed at a pace of three to four buildings per year. With the bank’s participation they will appear in 2012 in Nizhny Novgorod and Omsk, then - in Kemerovo and Rostov-on-Don. According to Chitipakhovyan, they will be hotels of the Courtyard brand with 150 rooms with the cost worth about 25 million euros “with a little more modest decoration and furniture” than in the Marriott Courtyard City Centre that was officially opened in Irkutsk on Thursday. According to him, the special attitude of investors to the project in Irkutsk in view of the close proximity of Lake Baikal has justified itself. “The rate of entry into the market for this hotel is approximately two times higher than the average,” the bank’s head said.

In addition, with the participation of other investors the global network is going to open in the near future one hotel in Krasnoyarsk and Krasnodar each, and three hotels in Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Marriott International is an American international network consisting of more than 3,500 hotels with the total hotel room capacity of about 500 thousand. It is present in 70 countries around the world. The corporation annually opens nearly 200 new hotels.
