MOSCOW, February 17 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Children’s Ombudsman Alexander Astakhov asks the Foreign Ministry to look into the situation with a Russian teenager adopted by the US family, who wants to return back home because of abuse.
Sixteen-years-old Anton Batrakov from Chuvashia, adopted by the American parents and living in the United States asked to return him back to Russia, telling in his letters about abuse. Media reports quote Anton as writing “it is ten times worse here (in the USA) than in the orphanage”.
At the present moment, specialists began checking the procedure of Anton’s adoption and facts described in his letter, Pavel Astakhov wrote in his Twitter microblog. “I appealed to the Foreign Ministry and the Russian Consulate in the United States to check the situation with Anton and offer necessary legal assistance. The prosecutor’s office will check the adoption,” he said.
According to Astakhov, “if Russia agrees to a second adoption with due regard for the interests of the teenager, he can be adopted by a new family in the United States”.
