Up to four gunmen may be hiding in the blocked house, supposedly they are holing up in a basement

NALCHIK, February 17 (Itar-Tass) — A special operation continues in the town of Nartkala, the administrative center of Urvan district, Kabardino-Balkaria. The operation began on Thursday. Explosions and shots can be heard from Repin Street where gunmen hole up in a private house.

The neighboring houses are still cut off from electricity and water supply, local residents told Tass on Friday.

According to the press service of the district administration, nearby schools have not been officially closed, “parents have preferred to leave children at home”.

“Up to four gunmen may be hiding in the blocked house, supposedly they are holing up in a basement,” sources from the republican operations headquarters told Tass. A law enforcement officer was wounded during a shootout at the site of the operation on Thursday.

The regime of anti-terrorist operation was introduced at 8:30 am, Moscow time, on Thursday in the part of Nartkala limited by Nogmov, Borukayev, Kabardinskaya, Vatutin, and Mayakovsky Streets.
