ASHGABAT, February 17 (Itar-Tass) — Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on Thursday was inaugurated to his second term in office.
Swearing his oaths, Berdymukhamedov vowed to do everithing to “protect Turkmenistan’s state independence and neutral status, to show respect and protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, to obey and protect the national constitution, and to promote unity and consolidation of the Turkmen people, to safeguard its peaceful life, and to serve the nation with good faith and fidelity.”
The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the national parliament, top-ranking government officials, representatives from public associations, the Council of the Elder, and heads of regional administrations. Foreign and Turkmen diplomats, people of culture and journalists were also invited.
