3 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, February 16 (Itar-Tass) — Investigators in Nizhny Novgorod opened a criminal case over the death of three persons from carbon monoxide poisoning.

"The criminal case was opened under the Criminal Code article on "carrying out the works not meeting the requirements for the safety of life and health, which resulted in the death of two or more persons by negligence," the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

The incident occurred in a four-storey apartment building  on Febuary14 . Rescuers and investigators called to the scene found the bodies of two women with signs of carbon monoxide poisoning in an apartment on the first floor, and the body of another woman on the second floor. Two injured persons - a man and a woman - were rushed to a hospital.

The investigators found that the chimney was clogged with construction materials waste, which caused insufficient ventilation. The probe continues. Experts are to find out what organizations worked in the building and give a legal assessment of the actions of the persons responsible for the works.
