Syrian ambassador says President Bashar Assad is not going to resign

Syrian president considered to be legitimate since he was elected by the majority of the people

MOSCOW, February 15 (Itar-Tass) — Syrian President Bashar Assad is not going to resign, Syrian ambassador to Russia Riyad Mohammad Haddad said on Wednesday.

“I exclude such an option,” he stressed. “The president of our country is legitimate since he was elected by the majority of the people.” In his words, Bashar Assad enjoys support of all strata of the Syrian society.

“The number of those who demand his resignation is very small,” the Syrian diplomat said. “Say, 100,000 out of 23 million. So, no comment.”
