MOSCOW, February 15 (Itar-Tass) —— The US and NATO’s buildup in the Persian Gulf is worsening tensions over Iran,Vladimir Komoyedov, the chairman of the State Duma’s defense committee, said at a traditional meeting with military attaches accredited in Moscow.
“We know that the situation over Iran is worsening, because the US Navy is building up its group in that region,” Komoyedov said. “According to our sources, the overall firepower of the naval ships is 450 missiles. NATO countries are involved in that, too. One can not only smell powder there. It looks like they are setting it on fire.”
Komoyedov believes “this makes the risk of a clash in the region far more real.”
Komoyedov’s meeting with the military attache was devoted to the Duma’s efforts to provide legislative support for the national defenses in 2011 and plans for 2012.
