Ukraine interested in interregional cooperation with Russia

Ukrainian-Russian ties should be developed on a regional level

NIZHNI NOVGOROD, February 14 (Itar-Tass) — Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko said at a joint news conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday it was very important to develop Ukrainian-Russian ties not only between the two capitals, but also between individual regions of both countries.

He mentioned the Nizhni Novgorod Region as an example of cooperation with Ukraine. “Governor Valery Shantsev says bilateral trade turnover approaches one billion roubles. This is a very substantial figure,” Grischenko said.

He recalled that “the Nizhni Novgorod Region has a large Ukrainian community, and it is very important for its members to maintain ties with their parent country.”

Of great importance is support for transport projects, cooperation between specific companies and the search for solutions, which would ameliorate economic parameters,” Grishchenko said.
