PYONGYANG, February 13 (Itar-Tass) — Thanks to Kim Jong Il, who took measures to strengthen the military potential of North Korea, its armed forces “can guarantee the country’s prosperity and happiness of its people.” This statement was made by Chief of the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) Vice Marshal Ri Yong Ho. He was speaking on Sunday at a mass rally at Mount Paektu in the north of the country where Kim Jong Il was born in a secret guerrilla camp in 1942. According to the military commander, the birth of the future leader of North Korea who pursued the Songun policy (military-oriented policy), “was a bright spot not only for the Korean nation, but also for the entire progressive mankind.”

Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) Kim Ki Nam noted that during the life of Kim Jong Il the WPK turned “into an invincible party and the guiding force in implementing the Songun policy.”

Kim Jong Il died last December from a heart attack during a regular inspection trip.
