Benjamin Netanyahu: Abbas has turned his back on peace with Israel

Instead of engaging in negotiations that would bring an end to the conflict, Abbas prefers to link to the terror organization Hamas – the same Hamas that embraces Iran

TEL AVIV, February 13. /ITAR-TASS/. The head of the Palestinian National Authority / PNA / Mahmoud Abbas, "turned his back on peace." This was stated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, commenting on Sunday's performance of PNA chairman at a meeting of foreign ministers of the Arab League in Cairo.

"In his speech, Abu Mazen / Abbas / turns his back on peace," - said  a statement released today by the Office of the Prime Minister. "Instead of engaging in negotiations that would bring an end to the conflict, Abbas prefers to link to the terror organization Hamas – the same Hamas that embraces Iran" - the document says.
Mahmoud Abbas, speaking in Cairo, said that he intends to send Netanyahu a formal letter demanding complete cessation of settlement activity in the Palestinian territories and recognize the 1967 borders as the basis for a peaceful settlement. He warned that if the answer would be negative the Palestinians would resume their campaign that aims to obtain independence through the UN and its institutions.
Israel continues to insist that direct peace talks should be resumed without any preconditions, and all claims must be discussed in a dialogue.
