PYONGYANG, February 12 (Itar-Tass) — The American-South Korean exercises “Key Resolve” and “Foal Eagle”, scheduled for February-March, aim at aggravating confrontation with North Korea.

This conclusion is given in a commentary, published on Sunday in the country’s leading newspaper Rodong Sinmun.

It is the United States and “a group of South Korean traitors, headed by President Lee Myung-bak”, “are responsible for rising tension in the Korean Peninsula and the crisis between the North and the South”, claims the newspaper.

Conservative authorities in Seoul agreed to use South Korea, “turned into a US colony”, as “a striking force in the process of implementing the aggressive American strategy in the peninsula”, stresses Rodong Sinmun.

It warns that “warmongers” in South Korea and outside forces, acting on their side “will not escape an exemplary punishment” and recommends them abandoning “a delirious provocative policy”.

The annual exercise “Key Resolve” will be mounted between February 27 and March 9. It will involve 200,000 South Korean men and officers as well as 2.100 American servicemen.

The other joint war games “Foal Eagle” will start on March 1 and will end on April 30. South Korea will muster for them a division of South Korean armed forces, and the US – 11,000 troops.
