SOCHI, February 12 (Itar-Tass) —— Representatives from the Coordination Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Sunday begin their sevenths inspection of Olympic facilities in the capital city of the Olympic Games-2014.
The delegations is led by the chairman of the Coordination Commission Jean-Claude Killy and Olympic Games executive director Gilbert Felli. The delegation will visit Olympic facilities under construction and attend competitions of Alpine World Cup in Krasnaya Polyana to assess the first test downhill skiing event at the Olympic facility. They will also hear reports and presentations about the progress of preparations to the Olympics, a spokesman for the Sochi-2014 organizing committee told Itar-Tass.
The previous inspection by the IOC Coordination Commission was held on September 12 through 14, 2011. They then noted big progress in the preparations for the Olympic Games, especially noting a large-scale interest the Sochi Olympics organizers stirred up throughout the country.
The seventh visit by the IOC Coordination Commission will last till February 14.
The role of the Coordination Commission is to monitor and assist the Organising Committees for the Olympic Games. The Coordination Commission for Sochi 2014 is composed of IOC and IPC members, as well as Olympic Movement representatives and ad hoc external advisors. The Commission has in all 13 members and is chaired by Jean-Claude Killy.
