MOSCOW, February 11 (Itar-Tass) —— Three gunmen were destroyed, one law enforcer was killed and one commando got an injury in a special operation conducted in Dagestan.
As a representative of the Information Center of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) told ITAR-TASS, forces of the NAC operational headquarters carried out a number of targeted search events within the framework of the counterterrorist operation regime introduced in the village of Gurbuki in Dagestan’s Karabudakhkent region on December 20, 2011. As a result of the events, a group of militants was spotted and blocked in a private house holding at about 22.00 on February 10.
“Before the beginning of the active phase of the special operation, law enforcers evacuated residents of nearby houses and offered the gunmen to lay down arms and surrender,” the NAC representative said. “In response, they opened heavy fire, as a result of which one police officer died and one OMON officer got an injury.
“According to the preliminary information, three gunmen were destroyed. At present, the house holding is blocked and the active phase of the counterterrorist operation will be continued,” the NAC representative added.
