MOSCOW, February 10 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia urged all Syrian opposition forces to support a protocol, which the Syrian government and the League of Arab States (LAS) signed to determine the legal status of the LAS observer mission, a diplomatic source in the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

“We appealed to all Syrian opposition forces to support the protocol for the legal status of the LAS observer mission signed on December 19, 2011 and to enforce the fulfilment of all its provisions for the soonest seizure of violence no matter where it comes,” the Russian diplomatic source said.

“Due to an alarming development of the situation in Syria we once again affirm the support to the LAS observer mission in the country. We assume that its work in Syria is not only needed for a fair and unbiased reporting of current events, but also for the pursuit of goals to contain and deescalate tensions, prevent them from growing into a large-scale civil war,” the Russian diplomatic source underlined.
