Interior troops kill or arrest about 60 militants in North Caucasus

Since the beginning of 2012, Russia's troops have neutralised close to 60 militants in the North Caucasus

MOSCOW, February 10 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s interior troops have neutralised  almost 60 militants in the North Caucasus since the beginning of the current year, Chief Commander of the Interior troops Colonel-General Nikolai Rogozhkin said on the sidelines of the ministry’s board meeting on Friday.

“We have neutralised – arrested or killed – 58 participants of the bandit groups,” he said explaining the figure, referring to various republics of the region, but “mostly in Dagestan.”

Rogozhkin said that five military officers of the interior troops died during the special operations in the North Caucasus, and six were wounded.

“Unfortunately, nobody can avoid losses at wars,” the general said.

Generally speaking, he characterised the situation in the North Caucasus region as “stably controllable.”
