MOSCOW, February 9 (Itar-Tass) — The damage from corruption crimes, which were investigated in Moscow in 2011, exceeded 300 million roubles, head of Moscow’s branch of Russia’s Investigative Committee Vadim Yakovenko told a board meeting of the committee devoted to results of 2011.
“In 2011, we opened over 500 corruption criminal cases, and the damage from finalised investigations exceeded 300 million roubles,” he said.
Over 70 million roubles were returned to the budget at the stage of investigation, he added.
“An average damage from a corruption crime exceeded 700,000 roubles in 2011,” Yakovenko said. We brought to responsibility “very different officials regardless of their positions and ranks.” For example, there were 24 persons with a special legal status – lawyers, investigators of the police and the investigative committee and prosecution staff.
The department paid a lot of attention to counteracting corruption in the housing maintenance sector and in spending budget financing under state contracts, he said.
