Frosts of 50 degrees Celsius below zero will remain in Russia's Far East for a few more days

VLADIVOSTOK, February 9 (Itar-Tass) - Frosts of 50 degrees Celsius below zero will remain in Russia's Far East for a few more days, according to meteorologists. On Thursday morning they reported that the lowest temperature - minus 56 degrees was observed in Yakut settlement of Oimyakon that has a population of about 500.

In Kolyma air temperature of 55 degrees below zero was registered on Thursday in the village of Elgen in Yagodninsky district, where only five people live. The last inhabitants of the vanishing village are waiting for resettlement, and then only weather stations with meteorologists on duty will remain in Elgen.

Severe frosts in Kolyma are also observed on Thursday in the town of Susuman (minus 52 degrees), in the settlements of Seimchan (minus 53 degrees) and Omsukchan (minus 50 degrees).

The central part of Chukotka has been affected by severe cold. In the Omolon settlement air temperature dropped to minus 53 degrees Celsius. Severe frosts are also recorded in the north of the Kamchatka Territory where a temperature of minus 51 degrees was registered at the Verkhneye Penzhino weather station.
