The Verkhovna Rada yet again votes down the bill on decriminalizing the Article of the Criminal Code under which Tymoshenko was imprisoned

Decriminalization of the article under which the former prime minister was convicted is demanded by the Ukrainian opposition and European parliamentarians

KIEV, February 8. (Itar-Tass). Today the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, voted down a bill of the Criminal Code under which the former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko was sentenced to imprisonment.  A total of 159 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada supported the bill out of  the 226 minimum required.

Decriminalization of the article under which the former prime minister was convicted is demanded by the Ukrainian opposition and European parliamentarians.

On October 11 Kiev Pechersk district court sentenced  ex-premier to seven years in prison on abuse of office charges for signing of gas contracts with Russia in January 2009.
