Ukraine compensates EU from its storages for shortages in Russia's gas supplies

Urkaine continues to compensate European consumers from its own underground gas storages for the under-supplied natural gas

KIEV, February 8 (Itar-Tass) — Urkaine continues to compensate European consumers from its own underground gas storages for the under-supplied natural gas at the Ukraine-Russia border, Ukraine’s Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuri Boiko told reporters on Wednesday.

“There is major takeoff of gas inside Russia,” he said. “For example, as of today, we should be having 510 million cubic metres under the technical agreement /with Russia/, but /realistically/ we have 450.”

The minister assured the reporters that the Ukrainian side is undertaking every effort to assist Gazprom in supplying energy to other countries.

“We supply Turkey with additional eleven million cubic metres a day,” he said. “Thus, we are assisting Europe.”

Boiko assured that Ukraine was not taking more of the Russian gas for its own purposes than what is stipulated by the technical agreement between the sides.
