Ukraine cuts gas transit by 12% to 9 bln cub m in January 2012.

KIEV, February 7 (Itar-Tass) —— The transit of natural gas via Ukraine decreased by twelve percent in January 2012, as compared to the same month of the preceding year, and amounted to 9.2 billion cubic metres, the press service of the Ukrtransgaz company said on Tuesday.

In the period under review, 8.8 billion cubic metres of natural gas were transported to the European Union countries and 386 million cubic metres of gas to Moldova, the press service said.

“In the reporting period, the gas transportation to European countries was done by their request,” the press service wrote in the statement.

In January 2012, the country’s overall gas transit through main gas pipelines went down by nine percent to 16.3 billion cubic metres.
