Technical problem suspends gas production at Shah Deniz

Gas production at the Shah Deniz field on the Caspian Sea shelf is suspended due to technical problems

BAKU, February 7 (Itar-Tass) —— Gas production at the Shah Deniz field on the Caspian Sea shelf is suspended due to technical problems, BP Azerbaijan, the operator of Shah Deniz with the appraised reserves of 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas, said on Tuesday.

“Power supply to the Shah Deniz platform was shut down automatically in the course of preventive maintenance. Gas production was suspended,” the company said, adding that gas transportation to Georgia and Turkey through the South Caucasian pipeline was also suspended.

Reasons for technical failure are being investigated. Power supply maintenance continues. “It is planned to resume the operation by night time,” the company said.

The platform produces gas from four wells. The daily production amount is 25 million cubic meters.
