DAMASCUS, February 7 (Itar-Tass) —— Each leader in every country must realize his or her share of responsibility, and the Syrian leader does, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday, beginning talks with the Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Lavrov and another top-ranking Russian official, director of Foreign Intelligence Service Mikhail Fradkov, arrived in the Syrian capital to try to find a way out of the Syrian crisis.

It is not ruled out that the sides will discuss possible resumption of the League of Arab States mission, a move Russia actively supports.

“It is in our interests to see Arab peoples live in peace and accord,” Lavrov said.

On February 4, Russia and China vetoed a Morocco-drafted United Nations Security Council resolution on Syria. According to the Russian delegation, the resolution was sending unbalanced signals to the parties of the Syrian conflict. Many Western leaders blamed Russia for ongoing riots in Syria, describing its position as “uncompromising.” On Monday Lavrov responded to opponents, “There are some evaluations in the West concerning the vote on Syria in the UN Security Council that sound, I would say, indecent and somewhere on the verge of hysteria,” Lavrov said. “Those who get angry are rarely right.”
