CARACAS, February 7 (Itar-Tass) — Twenty-nine people were arrested in a large-scale anti-drug operation in the Dominican Republic on Monday, and 17 of them are referred to as “Russians,” the National Drug Control Directorate reports.
The national anti-drug agency does not specify whether these are citizens of the Russian Federation or Russian speaking citizens of the former USSR. Over 120 kilograms of cocaine were found during search operations. Cocaine was intended for Puerto Rico. Additionally police arrested the property belonging to the detained drug dealers, including several luxury villas and apartments, yachts, a speed boat and a private plane.
There are also Puerto Ricans, Dominicans and Columbians among the arrested apart from the so-called “Russians”. For an unclear reason, a statement of the Dominican police department gives the names of all the arrested Latin American nationals, but does not give any names of the arrested “Russians”.
