Medvedev hopes Russian politics to benefit from governors’ elections

Medvedev recalled the start of the state programs for innovations

GORKI, Moscow region, February 6 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s political system will benefit from gubernatorial elections, President Dmitry Medvedev said Monday at a meeting with representatives of the Public Committee of Supporters.

“I hope this will be a new but long-forgotten procedure and it will work well for our system of state power,” he said.

“If you take a look at what’s in the bill I submitted /to the State Duma/, you’ll see it includes a serious enough set of instruments for producing an effect, including the President’s right to dismiss a governor in case he or she commits certain violations,” Medvedev said.

“I think the resultant construction /the system of gubernatorial elections – Itar-Tass/ will be a balanced one,” he said.

Medvedev recalled the start of the state programs for innovations, saying: “It would really have an exotic sounding at the start.”

“There was no course at support for innovations and now the whole thing is functioning,” he said. “It has turned into something voguish and prestigious and whole clusters of innovations are being created. That’s a tangible result.”
