MOSCOW, February 6 (Itar-Tass) — Two armed burglars broke into a post office located in the east of Moscow on Monday morning and stole 2.5 million rubles from the cash desk, Moscow law enforcement agents told Itar-Tass.
The post office is located at 11 Metallurgov street. Two masked gunmen stole around two million roubles, keeping the personnel at gunpoint. The burglars escaped. None of the personnel was hurt, the source said. A group of investigators are working on site.
The press service of the Moscow department of the Post of Russia confirmed the fact of the armed burglary, but assured that "the theft of money would not affect the post office's customers to whom the Post of Russia will fulfill all obligations." The Post of Russia will render maximum assistance to police in order to solve the crime in the shortest time possible, the press service said.
It was a second incident of armed burglary into a post office committed in Moscow. On February 3 a different post office was robbed in the southeast of Moscow from which 7.5 million rubles were stolen. The crime has been solved, and most of the money stolen was returned, the press service of Moscow police told Itar-Tass on Sunday. A suspect presumed to be a burglary mastermind proved to be one of the post office workers.
