U.S. will do everything to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon

Barack Obama says US will do everything it can "to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and creating an arms race, a nuclear arms race, in a volatile region."

WASHINGTON, Feb. 6. / ITAR-TASS/. U.S. will do  everything it can "to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and creating an arms race, a nuclear arms race, in a volatile region,"  said U.S. President Barack Obama in an interview with the CNN broadcaster on Sunday.

Head of the Administration said that it intends to seek settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic means, but it did not rule out any options.

Commenting on Israel's intention to strike at the Iranian nuclear facilities, Obama suggested that a decision on this matter is still pending. However, he added that the Israelis have every reason to worry.
"I think they, like us, believe that Iran has to stand down on its nuclear weapons program," said the American leader. "Until they do, I think Israel righly is going to be very concerned, and we are as well." He stressed that the United States and Israel will act together on this issue.

Earlier American media leaked information quoting the Pentagon chief Leon Panetta saying that Israeli strike on the Iranian nuclear facilities was very likely to take place "in April, May or June." According to the minister of defense, "Israel has made it clear that it is considering such an option" and the United States "have expressed their concerns on this matter." Simultaneously, the Obama administration's claim that  they "are not taking any options off the table" designed not to allow Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons. This suggests the possibility of using military force.
On the question of whether he considers the attack by Iran on the U.S. likely, Obama said: "We see no evidence that at the present time they have this kind of intention or ability."
